I COULD HAVE WON BALLON D’OR

Romanian striker Adrian Mutu has revealed that he could have won the Ballon d’Or during his career. Adrian Mutu made this known in a chat withItalian news portal Correire dello Sport. According to him, he could have made different decisions but he would rather not dwell on the past.

Adrian Mutu signed for Chelsea in 2003 and it is safe to say the transfer turned out to be one of the most dramatic in the history of the Premier League.  Adrian Mutu was at the peak of his powers when he signed for the Blues but off-field issues prevented him from producing his best form for Chelsea.

Chelsea signed Adrian Mutu from Italian club Parma in a £19m deal some 18 years ago. He swapped Italy for the Premier League shortly after he netted 22 goals in 36 games for Parma. His Blues career started well only for it to hit rock bottom very quickly. He was signed when Italian manager Claudio Ranieri was the Blues boss.

Mutu scored on his debut against Leicester City and he went on to score four goals in his first three games as a Chelsea player. The Romanian was unable to maintain that form and his Chelsea career quickly graduated from frying pan to fire with the appointment of Jose Mourinho in 2004. Mutu clashed with the Portuguese tactician and that signalled the beginning of the end of his career at Stamford Bridge.
