Adrian Mutu Admitted to Drug Offense

In 2004, Adrian Mutu, the Chelsea striker admitted to a drug offense. Ultimately, the Romania international was banned from football for 7 months. Adrian Mutu had tested positive for Cocaine in an announcement, which ultimately led him to be banned from football. Thus, he had to face an acrimonious departure from his team, Stamford Bridge.

The Romania international player relinquished his right to analyze a B sample after he met, Gordon Taylor, the Chief of the Professional Footballer’s Association who confirmed to the news agency that he had tested positive for cocaine. Gheorghe Popescu, the representative of Mutu had revealed the player. He had become a part of Chelsea from Parma in 2003 for £15.8 million and he was ‘destroyed’ and yet hoped to avoid a potential two-year ban by rejecting more samples and making a complete admission. ADRIAN MUTU: FIORENTINA CAREER REVIEWED

Adrian Mutu spent one season at Juventus before he left the former European champions to join fellow Italian Serie A outfit Fiorentina. His transfer from Juventus to Fiorentina was confirmed on July 8, 2006. The Florence-based team paid  €8m to secure the signing of Adrian Mutu from Juventus during the 2006 summer transfer window.

Around two years after his transfer to Fiorentina, it was reported that Italian capital club AS Roma made a bid worth around €20m for Adrian Mutu. MUTU: HELLAS VERONA CAREER IN SUMMARY

Romanian star Adrian Mutu spent around a year with Italian Serie A giants Inter Milan before he was sold to fellow Italian team Hellas Verona. At Inter Milan, Mutu scored once in ten league games.

Hellas Verona paid around €4m to secure the signing of Adrian Mutu from the Nerazurri during the summer’s transfer window in 2000 though they didn’t have complete ownership. Mutu had a lot of good players alongside him while he was at Verona. Quality players such as Massimo Oddo, Albert Gilardino and Mauro Camoranesi were his teammates at Hellas Verona. HAGI SHINES IN MUTU FAREWELL MATCH

Romanian football icon Gheorghe Hagi was the star attraction during the farewell match for Adrian Mutu last month. The 57-year-old showed glimpses of what made him the greatest of all time in Romanian football. The Cluj Arena was filled with fans who gathered for a farewell match in honour of Ex-Chelsea and Parma striker Adrian Mutu. The match saw a star-studded Romanian team take on a world team managed by veteran Italian tactician Cesare Prandelli.


The star-studded Romanian team had the likes of left-back Razvan Rat, strikerCiprianMarica and goalkeeper Bogdan Stelea. Rat made 113 caps for Romania, while Stelea played 91 times for his country. On his part, Marica scored 25 goals in 72 games for Romania. For the world team, the likes of Claude Makelele, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Ricardo Montolivio, Alberto Gilardino, Luca Toni, Tomas Ujfalusi, Fernando Couto andDavid Trezeguet were featured.   LIVERPOOL COULD MISS OUT ON TARGET AS ARSENAL WILLING TO PAY UP

According to Independent’s Miguel Delaney, Arsenal are prepared to get their checkbook out this summer as they look to sign RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Christopher Nkunku. The French international is also on the shopping list of the Gunners’ Premier League rivals, Liverpool and Manchester United.

A product of the Paris Saint-Germain youth setup, Nkunku left the French giants for RB Leipzig in 2019 in search of regular game-time. And the move has paid off big time for the 24-year-old, who has developed into one of the most exciting attacking midfielders in Europe over the past three years.

ADRIAN MUTU: CAREER IN SUMMARY

Romanian star Adrian Mutu started his professional football career at Arges Pitesti in his home country. He played for Arges Pitesti for two years and then spent half a season at Romanian capital club Dinamo Bucharest before signing for Italian Serie A giants Inter Milan during the winter transfer window in 2000. Adrian Mutu became an Inter Milan player midway through the 1999/00 season.


Adrian Mutu played ten times for Inter Milan before he left the club to join fellow Italian team Hellas Verona and then another Italian team in Parma. He scored 39 goals for both Hellas Verona and Parma in all competitions during a three-year period. His impressive displays at Parma prompted Chelsea to splash the cash on him despite the fact that he spent just one season at the club. The Blues paid €22.5m to secure his signing from Parma in 2003.                            A LOOK AT CHELSEA’S STRIKER FLOPS OVER THE YEARS

The Romanian, who arrived from Parma, flew out of the traps with Chelsea, scoring four goals in his opening three matches. That haul included a brace against London rivals Tottenham Hotspur. His form quickly fell away, though, and he failed to establish a positive working relationship with Mourinho. He was then sacked in October 2004, having tested positive for cocaine during a drugs test.

After a largely uninspiring first season in England, Crespo was loaned out to AC Milan in 2004. He returned the following season, though, and went on to score a memorable late winner against Wigan Athletic on the opening day of the campaign. However, while his goal return was respectable, he never truly settled in the Premier League and the Argentine then spent two years on loan with Inter Milan, whom he joined permanently on a free transfer in 2008.

                                     ON THIS DAY: CHELSEA SACK ADRIAN MUTU

When Chelsea, armed with Roman Abramovich’s warchest, completed the signing of Adrian Mutu from Parma for £15.7m during the summer of 2003, it was thought that they had secured the services of one of Italian football’s hottest properties.


Indeed, Parma head coach Cesare Prandelli said of the Romanian at the time of his departure to Stamford Bridge that he was the best player in Italy last year and he has all the qualities to be a great player in the Premiership. WHERE IS ADRIAN MUTU NOW?

Adrian Mutu was a Romanian superstar that fell from grace to grass after an ill-fated doping test that ruined his time in England. He tested positive for using cocaine in 2004 and was subsequently sacked from Chelsea. Though that didn’t stop clubs from lining up for him, with the player having an illustrious time in Italy before he finally retired.

Mutu signed for Chelsea in 2003 from Parma in a deal that was in excess of £16million. He went on four goals in his first four matches, and it seemed like he was destined for the top at the club. He struggled for form for the rest of the season; he was almost sold by new coach Jose Morutinho before he got banned for seven months for using banned substances. He was ordered to pay Chelsea compensation of £16million, which was his full transfer fee from Parma.

MUTU MAKES CHELSEA FLOP LIST

Adrian Mutu has made the list of the most expensive flops at Chelsea as compiled by English publication Football London. The Romanian football figure was named on the list of the ten worst Chelsea signings since 2000. Apart from Adrian Mutu, ex-Argentine international Juan Sebastien Veron, Scott Parker, Asier Del Horno and Jiri Jarosik also made the list.
