AJACCIO STEAL A DRAW

The Ligue 1 match played between Ajaccio and Olympique de Marseille on Friday has ended in a goalless draw.  That match was played at Stade Velodrome which is the home ground of Marseille.

The home supporters who were out there in the stadium didn’t look too happy with the end result of the match. They were gutted and they decided to boo off their own team.

Olympique de Marseille had entered the match as favourites against a relatively weaker Ajaccio team. But, they couldn’t dominate. They came close to finding the net on a couple of occasions, but, they were denied because of some great work by the Ajaccio goalie Guillermo Ochoa.

This goalless draw didn’t change the position of these two teams in the points table. Marseille is still at the third position with 51 points in 29 matches. They have won 15 games, have lost 8 and the remaining 6 have ended in the form of draws.

On the other hand, Ajaccio is at no. 13. They have managed to win only 8 out of the 29 matches and they have only 33 points – there aren’t many punters who would back them with a sports bet against Marseille, so grabbing a draw is a bit like a horse racing somehow beating a thoroughbred in horse racing.

For the match against Ajaccio, the manager of Marseille, Elie Baup, made a surprise change in the starting line up. He brought in Modou Sougou on the place of Jordan Ayew.

Ajaccio was also without a couple of its regular players i.e. Dennis Oliech and Benjamin Andre. Both are suspended at the moment.

Marseille got the first goal scoring chance in the 15th minute, but, Andre Ayew’s shot was cleared by Ochoa.

Marseille again had an opportunity in the 25th minute, but, it was Ochoa again who denied them. The Mexican goalie dived towards his left to stop a powerful shot from Andre-Pierre Gignac.

Ajaccio also had a chance of finding the net just before the half time break, but, Johan Cavalli’s placement went wrong. His drive went just wide of the net.

There were a few opportunities for Marseille in the second half as well, but, they couldn’t finish well on either of those occasions and eventually, they ended up getting only one point from the match.

Ajaccio will face Toulose in its next match. That match will be played at Stade Francois Coty on 31st of March.
